Application Procedure
The application of a hearing-aid is a complex treatment process recommended in all cases of disabling hypoacusis that cannot be treated with medicines or by surgery.

The appropriate treatment for children with hearing deficit is divided into the following phases:
  • early diagnosis of the deficit
  • assessment of development capacities
  • use of suitable hearing-aids (if necessary)
  • follow-up aimed at ensuring that the hearing-aids applied work adequately, and that they are suitable for the child and are used regularly.
Attention to assistance and periodical appraisals of the hearing-aids and hearing, with or without acoustic support, are essential for a successful treatment.

Of fundamental importance is also the logopaedic rehabilitation treatment, since the application of hearing-aids is not meant as a point of arrival but rather a point of departure for establishing a valid therapy program.

The use of a hearing-aid is therefore understood as an educative moment, and an aspect in a much wider communicative therapy context. A hearing-aid is the element that facilitates the entry of sound sensations which, through overall logopaedic therapy, must acquire the message role.

The essential partner in rehabilitation of the hypoacusis child is the family which, after the difficulty in accepting the hearing handicap, must regain trust in its irreplaceable educative function.
